It’s all in the combination – Coating in the food and pharmaceutical industries, part 1

Fluid bed equipment is widely used in many areas of industry. A particular focus of the use of fluid bed technology is the coating of particles as well as encapsulation. Especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries there are many applications. In addition, complementary technologies can be used to achieve special product properties. The first part of this article describes the basics of coating, the second part in the next issue will deal with the plant technology. (German article)

Fluid bed equipment is widely used in many areas of industry. A particular focus of the use of fluid bed technology is the coating of particles as well as encapsulation. Especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries there are many applications. In addition, complementary technologies can be used to achieve special product properties. The first part of this article (P+F 6/2008, p. 31) described the basics of coating, the second part deals with the process technology. (article in German language)

Efficient fluid bed machines thanks to simulation

Fluidic simulation helps to design and optimize fluid bed spray granulators: Starting from a basis technology, project-specific special purpose machines are developed. Classical development steps such as prototype manufacture are no longer practicable. Advanced methods and tools have to be used to minimize the financial and material risk in the project phase. Among other things fluidic simulation is used here to develop fluid bed machines in a more efficient manner and to implement knowledge from pilot-scale experiments to a large scale.
