Project start for “StrOboBatt”
Partnership for the development of high-performance materials for energy storage
Development of structure- and surface-optimized silicon anodes and high-energy cathodes for energy-dense lithium-ion batteries for stationary energy storage solutions
The consortium in the “StrOboBatt” project is dedicated to the development of structure- and surface-optimized silicon anodes and high-energy cathodes for energy-dense lithium-ion batteries for stationary energy storage solutions. The partnership between PCC Thorium GmbH, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH is a significant step towards sustainable energy storage solutions. The partnership combines the expertise and resources of the companies involved as well as numerous other industrial and development partners such as E-Lyte Innovations GmbH, LG Chem Europe GmbH and UniverCell Holding GmbH.
The aim of the project is to develop high-performance materials for energy storage systems that offer improved performance and sustainability. The specific objectives of “StrOboBatt” include
- the development of innovative materials that increase the energy storage capacity and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries
- optimizing the structure and surface properties of silicon anodes and cobalt- and nickel-free cathodes, their coating and
- the integration of environmentally friendly technologies to reduce the ecological footprint of battery production.
By using water instead of organic and toxic solvents as a sustainable, environmentally friendly solvent for the active materials, binders and conductive additives and a more moisture-insensitive environment in cell production, energy costs and thus cell production costs can be drastically reduced.
Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, Glatt is planning a plant based on Glatt Powder Synthesis technology for the production of such materials at its site in Freiburg.
The partnership for the development of high-performance materials for energy storage under the name “StrOboBatt” promises groundbreaking innovations and a significant contribution to the energy transition. We look forward to sharing the progress of this exciting project with the world and shaping the future of energy storage together.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) is funding the “StrOboBatt” project under the reference number FKZ 03ETE051A.
