Sustainability strategies
As part of our sustainability strategy at Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH in Weimar, we have implemented comprehensive measures to reduce our CO₂ emissions in recent years. In particular, we have focused on modernizing our heating and steam generation systems and installing a photovoltaic system on the roof of our office building. These measures have led to a significant reduction in our greenhouse gas emissions, as can be seen from the current figures.
Energy savings thanks to new heating system and steam generator
The installation of a modern, energy-efficient heating system and an optimized steam generator has significantly reduced our energy consumption. These measures have enabled us to reduce fuel consumption and thus significantly minimize the associated CO₂ emissions. The more efficient use of energy sources has also contributed to a reduction in operating costs.
Photovoltaic system on the office roof
Another important step was the installation of a high-performance photovoltaic system on our office building. This system produces a significant proportion of our electricity requirements from renewable energies, which has enabled us to reduce our purchases from fossil sources. In this way, we are making an active contribution to climate protection and at the same time strengthening our energy independence.
Reduction of GHG emissions
The positive effects of these measures are clearly reflected in our current CO₂ emissions data. According to the latest calculations, we were able to reduce our total emissions from 509,785 kg CO₂e in 2021 to 470,955.68 kg CO₂e in 2024. This corresponds to a reduction of around 7.6% within three years. This development confirms the success of our sustainability strategy and motivates us to continue on this path.
PHOS4green technology for sustainable phosphorus recovery
One forward-looking aspect of our sustainability strategy is the use of innovative technologies to conserve resources. An outstanding example of this is the Phos4green process, which enables the environmentally friendly recovery of phosphorus from sewage sludge ash. This process helps to reduce the use of mineral phosphate fertilizers, which are often associated with high levels of heavy metal pollution.
The process is based on the chemical conversion of phosphorus into a water-soluble form that can be used directly as a fertilizer. This not only recovers valuable resources, but also minimizes environmental pollution. In addition, this technology complies with the legal requirements for sustainable phosphorus use and contributes to securing agricultural production in the long term.
The use of such technologies underlines our commitment to a sustainable circular economy and the reduction of pollutants in the environment.
Awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal
Our commitment to sustainability was recently awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal. This internationally recognized rating system evaluates companies in the areas of the environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. The award confirms our ongoing commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.
Outlook
We will continue our efforts to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. Planned measures include the optimization of further operating processes, the expansion of renewable energies and the continuous improvement of energy efficiency in our buildings and production facilities.
We are proud of the progress we have made and will continue to make our contribution to climate protection in the future.
